Welcome
According to a copy of the royal grant, the business that Johs. H. Giæver took over in 1868 was started by Tomas A. Lyng on 22 August 1795. Tomas A. Lyng was married to the legendary “Mother Lyng”, who had 12 children, none of whom survived. The story goes that because it was not her fate to have her own children, she adopted 32 foster children.
The company Johs. H. Giæver Ltd. currently operates its business from several locations; Havnnes, Djupvik, Kongsfjord and Henningsvær. We operate an extensive business with the production and export of fish products, mostly dried fish.
We also have a grocery business at Havnnes where you can purchase most of the daily products you need.
The selection is not as large as it was in the old grocery shops that sold everything from knitting needles and fishing supplies to cloths and shoes. But we can offer freshly baked bread and newspapers from 9 am. We also have ‘Post i Butikk’, so we ensure that the island’s residents can get their post from when the shop opens and they have the opportunity to collect and send packages, letters and cash-on-delivery items. It is also possible to withdraw money from Postbanken accounts and we have a payment terminal (VISA, MasterCard and American Express). We also have octane 95 petrol and diesel for boats.
